Oh, it’s possible.
I fell asleep on the daybed with the Leica Monochrom and the Leica Noctilux 50mm f/1.0 ver. 3 next to me. I know this because in the middle of the night when I woke (as usual) to a swollen and throbbing ankle I saw it. I also saw a nice shadow being cast by the front porch lights shining through the front door’s surrounding glass. Knowing the Leica’s ability to shoot in low light and knowing how fast the Noctilux is, and knowing I was not going back to sleep, I thought why not. I set the ISO to “push 25,000” and shot away. I literally did not change my position. Trust me, it is too painful. I just held the camera at different angles and mostly shot using the back screen while holding the camera out away from me. Focusing in this indirect and minimal light was a bit of challenge, but I knew that the sensor noise would be such as to mask any minor out-of-focus shots. I missed focus on plenty. A few did turn out well, I think. This one looks like if I open the front door I will be following the light and passing on. The grain helps to convey how I feel when my ankle wakes me up in the middle of the night, as if my head is fuzzy and unclear.
Yes, noisy as hell, and certainly do not try to enlarge it, but photography is first about conveying the mood(s) inherent in moments.
