I’ve written before how much I like shooting at night. I don’t mean dusk, early evening, sunset–I mean DARK. Nothing but the moon and whatever other artificial light may exist. (Let’s remember that the moon is dark except for the sun’s light it reflects.) Yes, it is challenging to get decently crisp photos in such light, as you need higher shutter speeds which invariably mean higher, read noisier, ISOs. Still, as I wrote before, I like the texture such photos possess even if they give up something to resolution.
A few nights ago, around 11:30 pm and while still with two good ankles and while unable to sleep, I grabbed my Leica M Monochrome (246) with a 75mm lens and walked around Old Town taking photographs. I didn’t call it quits until almost 1:30. All but one photo is from that outing. The one that is not, is actually a pre sunrise photograph looking toward Portsmouth from New Castle. Given the distance, I am very pleased with how the photo turned out.
All photos were from hand holding the camera. Some have been cropped. Minor exposure tweaking has also been employed, but mostly what you see is what I got. Also, I’m a sucker for dangling string lights.
